In the lead up and during the 2000 Sydney Olympics I was engaged by APP Corporation, one of the largest project management companies in Australia. APP project managed the construction, ‘Olympic Infrastructure Overlay’ and/or the ‘Common Domain’ for 13 of the 33 Olympic Venues and Events on behalf of the OCA and SOCOG including:

Sydney Olympic Park, Showground venues for the Olympic Handball, Baseball, Modern Pentathlon, Basketball, and the Northern Food Court.

Olympic Sailing Shorebase Facility at Rushcutters Bay.

Olympic Beach Volleyball Stadium on Bondi Beach.

Olympic Cycling Velodrome at Bankstown.

Olympic Tennis Centre at Sydney Olympic Park.

Olympic Triathlon, the Olympic Road Cycling, and the Olympic Marathon courses.

Olympic Water Polo Aquatic Centre at North Ryde.

The Olympic Banner Program for Sydney.

Project Management and Procurement for Olympic Badminton, Handball, Modern Pentathlon Test Events.

The Truffle Group

Project Manager

Project Manager responsible for the organisation of a number of large scale Christmas catering events along the northern boardwalk of the Sydney Opera House. I was also entrusted with Project Managing, the Truffle Groups, catering rights for the V8 Supercar events at Symmons Plains, Tasmania and Eastern Creek, Sydney. In 2005 I organised a number of catering and bar components for the V8 Supercars at the Bathurst 1000, which was the last major event I did before starting full-time study for my Masters and PhD degrees.

Responsible for staffing, equipment, logistics management and catering co-ordination for 30 suites, sponsor hospitality tent and all infrastructure – kitchen marquees, generators, refrigeration, site transport etc

Responsible for profitable delivery of catering events in multiple venues for high level corporate, government, charity, private & celebrity clients.

Obtained costings from various suppliers so as to provide accurate proposals to clients including all production costs, covering items such as transport costs, catering prices, staffing requirements, design costs e.g. special furniture or themeing charges, and technical requirements.

Core Entertainment Pty Ltd

Chief Executive

Chief Executive of Core Entertainment Group Ltd. The company’s main business activities included international concert touring, artist management, sport and entertainment event management and corporate marketing advice. The Ray Charles concert tour broke all Sydney Opera House, and Victorian Arts Centre, all-time gross box office records.

As Chief Executive I was responsible for:

Managing all aspects of international concert tours

Negotiation and contracting with artists, venues and contractor’s, budgeting, developing an integrated media and publicity campaign to sell tickets.

Providing marketing, promotion and advertising advice to a number of companies and organisations.

Sydney Olympic Bid

The CEO of the Sydney Olympic Bid, Mr Rod McGeoch AM, invited me to become a Committee Member of the ‘Communications Commission’ for the Sydney Olympic Bid. The Communication Commission, made up of leading Advertising and Marketing experts, including three Chairman & CEO’s of major Australian Advertising Agencies, Marketing Director of Qantas, the Australian Olympic Committees Marketing consultant, the Chairman of the ABC, the owner of the Sydney King’s Basketball Team and myself were responsible for overseeing the planning of the international and domestic visual image of the Sydney Olympic Bid.

During the association with the Olympic Bid, initiated and secured multi-million dollar corporate sponsorship support for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Bid, from a range of companies in particular, St George Bank, 3M, Pearl and Dean and Kodak.

As a member of the Communications Commission sub-committee on the Olympic Volunteer’s Program, devised and negotiated the St George Banks implementation of the “Sign for Sydney Campaign”, during which over 100,000 people signed up to join the Sydney 2000 Olympic Volunteer Program.

As acting Chair of the sub-committee on ‘Signage and Decoration’, negotiated a large scale corporate sponsorship by 3M Australia Posters of Billboard Poster, Metrolites, and Cinema Screens and worked with the sub-committee and Bid Communications staff to decorate Sydney with the “Share the Spirit” identification.

Initiated joint Olympic Bid and Television Network senior executive meeting’s with the Nine Network and Network 10 to secure major multi-million dollar community service television community service advertising support for the Bids “Share the Spiirit” Campaign.

Was a member of the Communication Commission sub-committee overseeing the preparation of the final presentation by the Sydney Olympic 2000 Bid Team to the International Olympic Committee in Monte Carlo prior to the IOC vote and subsequent announcement of Sydney as the 2000 Summer Olympics Host City.

St Vincent’s Hospital

Victor Chang Cardiac Research Centre & Centre for Immunology

Marketing and Fundraising Consultant

After the murder of the extrordinary Dr Victor Chang I was moved to undertake a major fundraising campaign for St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Centre.

As Marketing & Fundraising Consultant to St Vincent’s Hospital I raised $1.68 million from two major concert fundraising events.

The Concert for Life in Centennial Park included INXS, Crowded House, Yothu Yindi, Jimmy Barnes and Diesel, Jenny Morris with Wendy Matthews and Kate Cebrano, James Reyne, James Blundell, Debra Conway, Def FX & Ratcat.

The Elton John Hey Hey it’s Saturday Aids Benefit.

Secured the Centennial Park Trust and the NSW Government agreement for use of Centennial Park.

Secured cash flow funding through Westpac Bank, and corporate sponsorship.

Was one of the Executive Producers for the INXS - Concert for Life, that raised $608k for St Vincent’s and $240k for the Centennial Park Trust.

Produced a subsequent fundraising event for St Vincent’s Hospital that I also conceived and created, The Hey Hey it’s Saturday joint Elton John Aids Benefit Concert.

Secured participation by Hey Hey it's Saturday to host a national telethon.

Secured the agreement of the Victorian TAB to collect donations for the telethon raising over $1 million.

West Nally Group Ltd.

Project Director

For a number of years, when the West Nally Group Ltd, represented a number of major international sport events in Australasia, including World Cup Rugby, World Cup Athletics, and Davis Cup Tennis, I acted in the capacity of Australian Account Director for the West Nally Group, in-effect their Australian office.

World Cup Athletics

The World Cup held in Canberra, hosted 3000 athletes from over 100 countries, including the USA and USSR. Four World Records were broken and technical backup was provided for over 1000 international media. As marketing advisor to the ‘Organising Committee’ my role included:

Member of an international team that secured inexcess of US $6 million through sponsorship, advertising, and international television rights for the event.

Planned and coordinated all corporate involvement including; contractual obligations, signage, corporate hospitality, advertising, sales promotion, travel and accreditation etc.

Provided assistance and advice to the television host broadcaster, international television crews, photographers and the media.

World Cup Rugby

Patrick Nally was instrumental in convincing the International Rugby Board (IRB) to establish the Rugby World Cup Tournament. When Australia and New Zealand was selected as the joint hosts of the 1st World Cup Rugby, the West Nally Group successfully secured the marketing rights. As the Australian West Nally representative my role included:

Negotiating a US $5 million marketing rights contract with the combined Rugby Boards of Australia and New Zealand. Appointment of the Australian and New Zealand Television Host Broadcaster.

Conceptualised and developed corporate sponsor opportunities in England, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

Was Marketing Advisor to the ‘Organising Committee’ of World Cup Rugby, during its first year of planning before being moved to V8 Supercars.

Davis Cup Tennis

Marketing Advisor on Davis Cup Ties between Australia and Paraguay in Sydney, and the semi-final between Australia and the USA in Brisbane.

Ensured the events ran according to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) standards required of all Davies Cup Ties world-wide.

Member of the Davis Cup Tennis ‘Organising Committee’.

Liaised with the Television Host Broadcaster, Network 7, and ESPN ensuring their successful coverage.
